Ratoath BMX Track Upgrades
Shay McNally and the track volunteers have been busy over the last few weeks at Ratoath BMX, the track is getting some upgrades in preparation for the third round of the 2012 Irish BMX National Race Series.
The main difference you’re going to notice is the first jump on the third straight is gone, well it’s been pushed forward and blended with the second jump so now we have a ‘step up step down’ about 10m from the berm. In theory this is going to open up the third straight a lot, making it faster and a little easier to keep speed for the big doubles just after the new jump.
Those big doubles on the third straight have also been filled in a bit too which means if you don’t jump them you should be able to manual them and maintain speed.
Tom Campbell has been upgrading the start gate, it’s gotten much needed ramps to get rid of the 2″ drop onto the tarmac. I’ve been over these a few times, they make a big difference. Rumour has it that the gate is about to be made stiffer as well.
More spectating room too, the first and third berm’s have been joined at the back to add lots of standing space.
The third National is on Sunday 15th April, with practice on the Saturday.
