Kelvin Batey at World Championships for Olympic place
Olympic Qualification on the menu at the 2016 UCI BMX World Championships
D Day has arrived for Irish BMX … the 2016 UCI Elite BMX World Championships are upon us and they come with elusive Olympic places on the menu. Ireland’s Kelvin Batey will take to the gate tomorrow (Sunday 29th May) in Medellin, Colombia with the best riders in the world, his goal is to secure Ireland a BMX spot at the Rio Olympics later this summer.
Kelvin has been acclimatising in the Colombian heat and humidity for one week now as he prepares for this weekend’s event on what is regarded as the most technically challenging track ever constructed for a UCI World Championships. Kelvin had his first practice session at the facility yesterday and commented:
“It’s been a great week here in Colombia and I’ve been itching to get on the track since arriving. There’s a lot riding on the next few days and with the great support I’ve received out here from the Irish team and people back home, I’m looking forward to getting on the gate and putting in the performance of my career and qualifying a place for Ireland at the Olympic Games”.
Kelvin and the Irish team will be back at the Worlds Supercross track this evening for Timetrails and more track time in prepreration for the main event on Sunday.
